Civil War diary of Simon M. Bott, 1864-1868.

This printed 14 cm. pocket diary was kept by Simon M. Bott, private in the 120th infantry division of Ohio (E Company). He entered handwritten notations on the calendar, concerning the day's activities, the weather, accounting figures, supplies, Biblical passages, and short poetry. Wartime entries are dated Jan. 1-Oct. 5, 1864; the latest year noted in the diary is 1868.

This regiment marched through Louisiana and into Mississippi, then returned home to Wayne County, Ohio, in 1864. The unit was on the City Belle when it was captured on the Red River in Louisiana.
